Frequently Asked Questions

Is this QR code generator really free?
Yes, our QR code generator is 100% free with no hidden costs, watermarks, or signup required. You can generate unlimited QR codes forever without any restrictions or premium tiers.
What types of QR codes can I create?
You can create QR codes for URLs/websites, plain text, email addresses (with optional subject and body), phone numbers, SMS messages, WiFi network credentials (SSID, password, security type), and vCard contact information (name, phone, email, company, website).
Do the QR codes expire?
No, QR codes generated with our tool never expire. The data is encoded directly into the QR code pattern itself, so it will work forever as long as the destination (like a website URL) remains active.
Is my data secure and private?
Absolutely. All QR codes are generated entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your data never leaves your device and is never sent to our servers. This ensures complete privacy for sensitive information like WiFi passwords or contact details.
What's the difference between PNG and SVG downloads?
PNG is a raster image format best for web use, social media, and digital displays at the size you select. SVG is a vector format that can be scaled to any size without losing quality, making it ideal for print materials like business cards, posters, and banners.
What is error correction and which level should I use?
Error correction allows QR codes to be read even if partially damaged or obscured. Low (7%) is fine for clean digital use. Medium (15%) is the default and works for most cases. Quartile (25%) and High (30%) are better if the QR code might be printed on textured surfaces or partially covered.
Can I customize the colors of my QR code?
Yes! You can fully customize both the foreground (dark modules) and background colors using the color pickers. For best scanning reliability, maintain high contrast between foreground and background colors. Dark foreground on light background works best.
What size QR code should I create?
For web and social media, 256x256 or 512x512 pixels works well. For print materials, use 512x512 or 1024x1024. If you need larger sizes for billboards or posters, download the SVG format which can be scaled infinitely without quality loss.
Why won't my QR code scan?
Common reasons include: insufficient contrast between colors (use dark on light), QR code is too small when printed, image is blurry or pixelated, or too much data encoded. Try increasing the size, using higher contrast colors, or reducing the amount of text/data.
Can I add a logo to my QR code?
Our current tool generates standard QR codes without embedded logos. If you need a logo, you can use High error correction (30%) and manually overlay a small logo in the center using image editing software. The error correction helps ensure the code remains scannable.
How do WiFi QR codes work?
WiFi QR codes encode your network name (SSID), password, and security type. When someone scans it with their phone camera, they can automatically connect to your WiFi network without typing the password. Perfect for homes, offices, cafes, and events.
What is a vCard QR code?
A vCard QR code contains contact information (name, phone, email, company, website) in a standardized format. When scanned, it allows the user to save your contact details directly to their phone's address book with one tap.
Can I track how many times my QR code is scanned?
Static QR codes like ours don't have built-in tracking. However, you can track scans by using a URL shortener with analytics (like Bitly) as your destination URL, or by adding UTM parameters to track visits in Google Analytics.
Do QR codes work on all phones?
Yes! Most modern smartphones (iPhone and Android) can scan QR codes directly with their built-in camera app. No special QR scanner app is needed. Simply point the camera at the QR code and tap the notification that appears.
Can I use these QR codes for commercial purposes?
Absolutely! QR codes generated with our tool are completely free for personal, commercial, and business use. Use them on products, marketing materials, business cards, menus, packaging, or anywhere else you need.
